Press release by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs : 
Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Luxembourg, like all Member States of the European Union, applied from March 2022 the temporary protection mechanism in favour of persons fleeing Ukraine. This mechanism, initially applicable for a period of 12 months since its activation, i.e. until 4 March 2023, is extended until 4 March 2024.

In view of this extension, the certificates issued to beneficiaries of temporary protection to prove their status, initially limited until 3 March 2023, must be renewed.

To this end, all beneficiaries of temporary protection have been contacted in recent weeks, by letter, to inform them of the procedure to be followed.

The Directorate of Immigration of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs calls on all persons who have not yet taken the necessary steps to renew their attestation to follow the instructions given in the letter.

Beneficiaries of temporary protection residing in Luxembourg, whose temporary protection certificate expires on 3 March 2023 and who have not received such a letter, are requested to contact the Directorate of Immigration at the following address: immigration.desk@mae.etat.lu.

It is important to underline that the extension of the temporary protection certificate before 4 March 2023 is necessary so that the persons concerned can continue to benefit from the rights linked to the temporary protection, such as the right to remain on Luxembourg soil, the right to work or the right to material aid provided by the Luxembourg State.
